I am a massage therapist in Redding Ca and people come to me in pain, stressed out, needing to relax and heal.
Many of the people who come to me for my massage services expect to get a massage and have all their pain and stress relieved. That can and does happen sometimes.
However, there is much more to the body and healing than many people are looking at or aware of in themselves.
What many of them are not of aware of is that pain relief, stress reduction, inner relaxation and healing requires work. It requires physical work, inner mental work and spiritual work.
For many people the journey of truly understanding their own pain relief, stress reduction, self relaxation and inner healing is something foreign to them.
"Go get a massage and I will feel fine for a while." Yet on a deeper level their still in pain and stressed out.
This is something that physical massage cannot always help with.
This type of pain relief and stress reduction requires inner awareness of what's going on in one's mind and life. It also requires doing the inner work to transform and transmute that pain into health within oneself.
This type of insight is needed if someone wants to heal on the emotional and mental levels(spiritual too) which is all connected to the body.
To come back to life within oneself takes work.
Some people want to do it and some do not. Many people do not even realize they aren't truly alive within themselves. They are not aware how their emotions and mental states deeply affect their body.
I mean, ideally it wouldn't take too much work if people were to have divine realizations that they are already whole, complete and perfect because that's what they were born as from spirit.
But, for most people it takes peeling away the many layers and subconscious limiting beliefs in themselves that have them disconnected from who they truly are, their essence of peace, love and of light. That's what takes work.
How one comes back to that I touch upon if you keep reading . For now I will talk about the physical process of healing, a very important component because having physical practices that get you into your body are needed for the inner awareness of what's happening in you on a physical level.
Connect With Your Body
The Physical Work Of The Healing Process
Regular practices that bring you into your body are very beneficial for relaxation, for healing.
I don't mean a really hard Cross Fit work out for example. Although working out is important, I mean practices that slow you down into a slower guided awareness into what's happening within your body.
Practices that get you in touch with the depth of your body on gentler, softer level.
When you regularly practice these types of connection with your body , they help you feel into your body in a way the helps you understand that you and your body are one. Although many people live disconnected from their bodies, the truth is the body is you.
This type of awareness is physical awareness that helps you feel deeper into your body to help you face your pain and stress, move through pain and stress and understand where your pain and stress is coming from.
When you have that integrated into you it makes it easier to understand how to help yourself relax on a physical level. It helps you understand the power that is within your body for relaxation and healing.
Some practices for physical connection to the body:
- Massage and body awareness body work.
- Yoga, slow yoga, yin yoga
- Tai Chai
- Slow walking
- Conscious Breathing
- Conscious Eating(foods that are healthy for you)
Massage therapy, for example, is one technique used in the physical work of the healing process. Massage helps cleanse the physical body and relieve pain in tissues in the body which can help lessen stress.
As you see above there are other physical practices that someone can do to help in their healing process.
It doesn't just stop at the physical level though. To go deeper into pain relief and stress reduction, a person has to face the mental and emotional parts of themselves that are in pain and stressed out.
Many people are not even aware of how much mental and emotional pain they are in because they aren't practicing self awareness. Below are some practices that help with this type of awareness.
Connect With Your Mind
Mental/Emotional Work Of The Healing Process
This process can initially be very difficult for people.
Of course people think they are connected to their mind because they have thoughts.
What I am talking about is being aware inside of yourself of what's happening in your mind. As you talk to people, as you listen to people and as you react to people.
Where is your pain and stress coming from? It's not coming from outside of you. It's actually coming from within you and how you react to things happening around you.
What is running you? Can you be within yourself to hear and see that?
Practices for connecting with your mind:
- Books on self awareness
- Awareness centered therapy or mindfulness centered therapy
Meditation for example, especially mindfulness meditation can help you be present with the mental processes in yourself to be able to gain insight into why you listen or react the way you do inside of yourself. Meditation can help you identify your triggers for pain and stress.
As you become more aware about your triggers, just the awareness itself can help alleviate the reaction and thus the pain and stress.
Sometimes though more work is required. Work with someone else to help you identify mental and emotional patterns that may be running you that you are not seeing.
This type of work takes vulnerability and transparency within yourself in allowing someone to see you beyond how you may be able to see yourself.
I offer a service called PSYCH-K which helps people access the stress and self limiting beliefs in their subconscious mind to be able to transform that into healing and self enhancing beliefs.
Even then it takes work to look within oneself and see where one isn't as happy or stress free as they would like to be.
The deeper one goes in awareness of the holistic healing process the easier it is to understand the spiritual part of who we are. The work takes us deeper into understand how regularly connecting to the spiritual always helps in the healing process.
Connect With The Spiritual
Spiritual Work Of The Healing Process
That is my spiritual belief. My word I use is God, use whatever word works for you.
God has helped me through many many challenging times, including a cancer diagnosis. I didn't fully know this at the time but as I started doing more mental and emotional work in myself I started to truly understand that there is a higher power that works through us for our highest good.
Relaxing with faith into this belief can truly help with pain and stress relief because so many people feel disconnected from that higher power. They are lost and searching. If they were to slow down, they would experience this higher power within themselves.
This is why doing the physical work and mental/emotional work of slowing down is important.
Slowing down and connecting to the spiritual within can and is amazing for insight, for awareness, for health and for healing.
Practices for connecting to the spiritual mind:
- Spiritual centered teachings/books
- Spiritually centered therapy
Ultimately it's all a meditation into oneself. Holistic meditation on the physical level, on the mental, emotional level and on the spiritual level. How deep are you willing to go?
It's all connected and it's all a meditative focus into the body, mind and spirit. This is true integrated awareness.
The healing process happens as the holistic meditations bring deeper awareness and insight into the truth of who you are.
The truth that peace and love and relaxation are always available within you. Just depends on how much you are able to practice the awareness within yourself and to clear layers and limiting beliefs that keep you from having that integrated into your being.
Are you a living example of holistic awareness? Do you know you can be?
