Massage and taking care of yourself in others ways are important components to your self care practice. I work with many people in my massage practice who have developed habits that do not support their self care. Their bodies suffer as a result.
Some people believe that self care is selfish. Some people put aside their self care to care more for others in their lives. While others are never really taught self care and they may develop destructive habits.
Yet self care is important to your body so that it can be strong and healthy. The stronger and healthier you are the more you can help take care of others and encourage them in their own self care.
Some fun self care practices!
- Massage, bodywork, healing touch
- Eating healthy food
- Self relaxation exercises
- Being outside
- Sleeping well
- Positive thoughts
Basically anything that is healthy that helps you fill yourself, regenerate. renew.
Sometimes unhealthy habits have been created and so it takes effort and focus to begin a self care practice.
There are many people I have massaged over the years who feel guilty about getting massages or even taking care of themselves. This is because they were not taught that being good to yourself is important, that giving healthy practices to your body is important and needed, especially as you get older.
For many people being good to oneself and feeling good within has to be trained and taught to them. It can take an injury or sickness that can sometimes help people realize that caring for their bodies is important.
Massage therapy is one tool that can help a self care practice. Massage helps the body remember to relax and rest, which is needed in a world that is fast paced and on the go. Yet like the list above there are many other self care practice that help someone with their self care practice. The more self care practices we have the better we feel and easier it is to be there for others.
